Muhammad Hassan. who died on K2
A formal investigation has been launched into the death of a Pakistani porter who fell near the summit of K2.
It comes after allegations were made that Mohammad Hassan could've been saved by other climbers who were eager to reach the top..
. K2, the world's second-highest mountain notorious for its challenges, a heartbreaking incident unfolded. Pakistani porter Muhammad Hassan, a devoted father of three working with Lela Peak Expedition, met a grim fate on July 27. The mountain's treacherous terrain claimed his life when an avalanche pushed him over a ledge during his ascent of the towering 28,300-foot peak.
Shockingly, more than fifty climbers, consumed by their personal pursuit of glory, walked past the stricken 27-year-old without offering assistance. Video footage captured the distressing scene of climbers physically crossing over Hassan, who lay helpless in the deep snow. While an unknown rescuer did provide some comfort, Hassan succumbed to his injuries as there was no organized rescue operation to aid him.
Fellow climber Wilhelm Steindl, who had retreated to base camp due to hazardous conditions, expressed his dismay at the callous inaction of his peers. He condemned the competitive race to the summit, labeling the situation scandalous.
Silvia Azdreeva, a Bulgarian climber who was part of the expedition when Hassan met his tragic end, emphasized the unforgiving nature of K2. She highlighted that help might not arrive swiftly on this formidable mountain, noting that it demands a high level of resilience and endurance.
Luis Soriano, another climber, characterized the event as a heart-wrenching tragedy. He recounted how climbers literally had to navigate around Hassan's stricken form on their way to the summit. The absence of an attempt to rescue him was deeply perplexing and painful.
